The borough of Union, popularly known as Uniontown, is the capital of the county. It is twelve miles distant from Brownsville. The town was laid out about the year 1769, by Henry Beeson, a member of the Society of Friends, who e...migrated from Berkeley county, Virginia, and settled upon the tract of land now occupied by the town, his cabin located at the spot near which formerly .
