From what we have now said on the subject of a rise and fall in the value of art...icles, we may perhaps come to the following general conclusions : 1st. A rise in the price of any article, benefits the persons in whose hands it appreciates, but it injures all the consumers of it, 2d. A fall in the price of any article injures the persons in whose hands it depreciates, but it benefits all the consumers of it.
3d. If these fluctuations in price do not proceed from any in- creased facility or difficulty in the production of the article, they will be but of temporary duration ; and from the frequency that every individual is both benefitted and injured by such occa- sional variations, they may in the course of his life balance each other in the injury and benefit they bring to him.
