These are comparatively rare in Terence, and occur chiefly in clausulae (see 53). The most impor- tant is the iambic dimeter acatalectic, or quaternarius, consisting of two complete iambic dipodies or four iambic feet. Terence admits the irrational spondee, tribrach, apparent dactyl, and shortened anapaest (but not the proceleusmatic) in the first three feet. The last foot is always an iambus or a pyrrhic, the last syllable being '■anceps.
