What reading level is An Irish-English Dictionary book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
It is to be remarked that the letter C is used as an adventitious prefix to all Irish words beginning with a vowel, which are of the masculine gender, and are preceded by the article At), which in English signifies the; ex. Atir-AtiAin, the soul; ah c-6aii, the bird; ah c-ioti^riA'o, the wonder; An c-dij'f eA^, the young man; Ati . c-UA-fiDA^vAti, the. superior. It hath been observed in the remarks on the letter S, that words of the feminine gender beginning with S must necessarily admit the le...tter C as a prefix, when preceded by the article Ati, and then the initial S is eclipsed or suppressed in the pronunciation, as in the words An c-ftAC, An c-piiit, An c-p|\6n, etc., pronounced An cIac, An c6i1j, An cfdn. But this rule suffers one remarkable and curious exception, which is, that words beginning with the letter S, in which the initial S is immediately followed by either C or t), will not admit an adventitious c as a prefix ; as in the words ah i-cui^Mn, An fci«ip, An tcuaic, An f C615, An fOATO, An i~oaic, etc.
