" None contradicted the bad baron, nor dared remind him who made Ulric wicked ; but some of the good retainers turned away from the sad sight, and left the hall.
Ulric slept on the floor, and, at dawn, step- ped into the cathedral, and took his place in the choir, to avoid observation.
What a change was there from the beauti- o ful youth Ulric, to the man Ulric !
