Mr. Butler was one of the founders of St. Paul's Epis- copal church in this village, and occupied a house on the site of the present church edifice in 1807-8. Later he occu- pied a residence on Merchant street, and then for a year or so the old mansion, later known as the McKoon house. From here he removed to the farm above mentioned, and became extensively engaged in sheep raising, and buying and selling land.
