The Commandant of the Fort, La Vergne, being urged by the Adminiftrative Bodies and the townfmen to furrcnder, yielded to their entreaties, and retired with the garri- fon to Verdun, where there was a confider- able depot of provifions and military ftores# On the fame day all the National cockades at Longwy difappeared, none but white ones were fecn there, nor any fhouts heard but that of Vive le Rot.
