At present we have schools which we think can be better maintained by consolidation than by the scattering of forces, as any one can see to be the fact by consulting the statistical table of this report.
However much it is thought desirable to maintain schools in all the houses of the district, one acquainted with all the facts in the case can but see that better work can be done by 26 27 and for the pupils, as well as at less expense, by consolidation than under the existing system.
If it is n...ot thought desirable to establish and maintain a graded school in town, all certainly ought to be willing that the best possible results with ungraded ones shall be attained.
We have been unusually fortunate in retaining during the past year our corps of efficient and experienced teachers em- ployed the previous year, with but few exceptions; these being Misses Ayer of No. 2 and Moore of No. 4, though the former was secured for the spring term and the latter for two terms of the year.
We are sorry to be compelled to dispense with the services of these efficient and successful teachers.
