In the schools, children in grades 1, 4, 8 and 12 were given the opportunity to receive a booster shot for diph- theria and tetanus. They were also tested for tuber- culosis. These same grades are done every year so that the children can be checked every 3 to 4 years. This is the year when "Medicare" will come into effect. Starting July 1, 1966 home nursing will be paid for by Medicare for those who are covered, are over 65 years of age and are in need of nursing care in the home after discharg...e from the hospital. With Medi- care it is anticipated that there will be a shortage of 22 hospital beds making hospital stays shorter and re- quiring nursing care at home. For this reason we are urging the town fathers to start planning to provide this type of service, and to discuss means for hiring a local Public Health Nurse. The possibility exists of combining small towns to be serviced by one nurse, e.g. Woodsville, Monroe, Bath, Benton, or Haverhill, Pike and Benton Flats. Some of your local citizens have already showed interest in this project.
