To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
The children coming from these homes to our Sunday School do so without any encouragement from their parents. Many children are found with us on Sunday morning at 10.30 who have had no breakfast, and who have had no help to dress themselves for church. To this neglect is frequently added the vigorou5 opposition of priest or rabbi, or race prejudice. It is a constant wonder to us how we ar^ able, with our inad- equate teaching force and poverty of appliances in the way of pictures, charts, etc.,... to maintain so large a religious work as we have among the children. The average attendance of our Sunday School the past year has been 140. More than this number attend the services of the Children's Church on Sun- day morning and evening. Heretofore we have encouraged our children to attend other Sunday Schools in this neighbor- hood held at hours that did not conflict with our own. We are convinced the practice has been pernicious to the child, i^pecially with those schools that offer certain awards and give lavishly at Easter, Christmas, etc.
