We are, however, progressing, I think, with some improvement. Wc have but two schools which have been open twelve months, thereby leaving the tabular number from nine to twelve month, comparatively small ; the others were open from eight to eleven months during the year. Four of the district free schools were kept open. In reference to the salary of teachers, seven of the districts pay a stipulated salary of fifty-six dollars per term or quarter.
