53 REPORT OF THE PLANNING BOARD The Planning Board, set up by a Special Town Meeting in 1950, has held five meetings during 1951. The Board has divided itself into two sections.
Section I has attempted to find a solution to the garbage disposal problem. So that all citizens may have an oppor- tunity to dispose of garbage in a practical manner. The Board investigated the possibility of a Town Incinerator or some other means of mechanically destroying garbage, but felt that any such plan would be... too expensive. Through the efforts of several members of the Board a weekly collection of garbage in Brookline has been secured. This service will not be free to residents, but the fee is nominal. The Town has been obligated in no way by this solution.
Section II has considered the possibility of working out some of the details of a Tax Map and a Road Classification System. This work is far from complete since no funds are available. However, with the cooperation of the Army the Board hopes that by the next Town Meeting part of a Town Tax Map will be completed and the Road Classification Sys- tem definitely established.
