64 REPORT OF THE SALEM FIRE DEPARTMENT There has been during the past year 62 Bell Alarms and 8 Still Alarms for the fire company to respond to.
The fire loss for the year was $5,147.16. Most of the loss was to property in the outlying districts.
The equipment and station is in fine condition and the public is invited to visit the station and see for them- selves what they are paying for. The new apparatus has been used for one year and a half and has given won- derful pe...rformances. The older piece of apparatus has a new booster tank, the pump has been overhauled, also the body. The immediate needs of the department is in having the motor overhauled and the body painted.
These things can be accomplished out of the regular fire appropriation without calling upon the taxpayers for any more money.

65 SPECIAL WATER COMMITTEE REPORT The committee appointed under Article Thirty of the 1935 Town Warrant to make a survey of the Salem Water Works and submit recommendations for a long term plan of future development of the system with the object in view of ascertaining future needs of same to place the system on a self-sustaining basis, beg to submit the following report: With the cooperation and assistance of the present water board, the committee has accumulated considerable data from the Town Reports of the past twenty years, and has made a preliminary survey of the Water Works property.
