In the latter part of 1949 a used truck was purchased which has been equipped at a nominal cost to provide a very necessary second unit, particu- larly for service to the out-lying districts. The new 38 unit has a 275 gallon booster tank, with a portable pump attached, and will also double as a ladder truck when equipped with a new forty-five foot extension ladder.
The entire cost to the Town of this piece of equipment, exclusive of the new ladder, will be less than $350.
Although the 1950 Fire... Department budget shows a substantial increase over the 1949 figure, this was deemed necessary because of the lack of adequate equip- ment at the present time. In addition to the new truck and ladder, the Department needs hose, nozzles, flares, and other equipment. Provision is also made in the 1950 budget for regular paid training meetings for the Fire Department.
Highway Department: The new Highway Depart- ment, headed by Foreman Albert Blaney, has been able to affect a substantial reduction in highway mainten- ance costs.
