Many others have donated their time and energy as coaches, officials and other helpful ways. I am sorry that I can't list all groups and individuals who have helped the various programs. Miss Julia Holaday and Miss Gail Laycock taught Red Cross Swimming and Life Saving. They also conducted the atternoon program at Hood Park including arts and crafts, games and contests and special events. Due to the fact polluted water runs into Hood Pond, the chlorinator for the swimming area was not installed... as we had hoped. When the sewerage is taken care of in the area contributing to the pollution, we can then apply again for the chlorinator. Additional funds were voted at last town meeting for the -38- tennis courts at the corner of Rollins and Manning Streets. The area has been expanded to serve a dual purpose. Ice skating on the area in winter and tennis in the summer, i A ten foot fence has been erected on the railroad side of the surface. The biggest improvement was made at Alexander Playground where a 620 foot rope tow for skiing was installed after four acres of hill was cleared and grubbed for that purpose.
