28 FIRE WARDEN'S REPORT We have had no serious fires the past year even though the woodlands were very dry during part of the summer and fall. The most dangerous fire oc- curred near Bridgewater Station on the R. E. A. line which cost $51.20 and was paid in full by the Insurance Co., insuring the contractor. Fifteen permits were issue for burning brush and rubbish during the year.
Permits are required for all burning in or near wood- lands. Permits do not lessen the responsibility of the partie...s obtaining them if damage is done to adjoining property.
We have some fire fighting tools but not enough for handling a large fire and the State forestry de- partment recommends that the Town appropriate $24.00 for additional equipment.
Below is a list of tools on hand and those recom- mended for purchase this year.

Supplement to the Report of the Forest Fire Warden Town of Bridgewater, 1941 Number of forest fire reports 2 Number of actual forest fires 2 Number of investigations only Estimated acreage of area burned over 2.001 Number of forest fire permits issued 15 Forest Fire Tools on Hand 9 knapsack pumps 4 Pulaski tools 12 shovels ICrosscut saw & wedge 10 mattocks (Hazel Hoes) 2 Canteens 10 axes 12 water pails 10 council tools 12 lanterns 29 Additional Tools and Equipment Recommended to be Purchased 3 Knapsack pumps 3 mattocks (Hazel hoes) 6 shovels 2 axes 4 fire rakes (council tools) 2 flame throwers Total estimated cost to town for above equipment $ 24.00 It is also recommended that $10.00 be made avail- able to purchase tools and equipment which may be- come broken, worn out or lost.
