SCANLON School Board 1957 — ANNUAL REPORTS — 1957 53 REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS To the School Board and Citizens of Effingham : During the school year 1956-57 the teachers in the Effingham Schools were Miss Gladys Leavitt, grades 5 to 8 in the Center School; and Mrs. Linnie Giles, grades 1 to 4 in the Falls School. In these times of great scarcity of good teachers Effingham is most fortunate to have such an effective teaching staff. Both Miss Leavitt and Mrs- Giles ...are continuing their service in their respective schools during the current year. During the year there was a total enrollment of 58 pupils in the Effingham schools with an average mem- bership of 48.9. Three elementary pupils attended the Ossipee Central School. In September of the current year the schools opened with an enrollment of 47 pupils. The enrollment of high school pupils was as fol- lows : Higrh Total Average Tuition School Number Pupils Membership Rate Kennett High School 13 10.2 $305.00 Brewster Academy 2 0.5 295.00 Portland High School 1 1-0 301.40 Totals 16 11.7 At the opening of high school in September of the current year there were 22 Effingham pupils enrolled at Kennett High School.
