Upon completion (hopefully by Town Meeting) of this project, we will have assembled a 568 acre block of conservation land. In May, we took title to the Varnums' Conservation Easement Donation and the King Tract. Several residents attended a June "Open Forest" sponsored by the commission and The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. Also, we took title to the Hill easement donation in November . On December 29, we became the owners of a 53.6 acre tract located in the Drlscoll Hill... area along the Greenfield Town Line. Former owner Charles Bowman sold us the land at a "bargain sale" price, as he wanted the land to become a Town Forest. This is a perfect example of the Conservation Fund in action. By having previously appropriated funds available, we could proceed with the opportunity Mr. Bowman presented to us in a timely and efficient manner. Our other major focus this year was planning. First, we handled the completion of the Town's first Water Resource Management and Protection Plan as authorized by voters at last Town Meeting.
