It would diminish the amount of im- portations and considerably advance the price of refined 26 sugars. And what have gentlemen on the other side ad- vanced to justify this astounding proposal. Their ac- credited spokesman did not venture to say that it would cheapen the price of refined sugar ; he knew well that it would do exactly the contrary.
