These minute and dehcate operations, these impor- tant preparations, were greatly facihtated for me by the Russian authorities, who showed so far as we were concerned a cordiaHty and obhgingness I can never forget. Thanks to the good- will and the precious help of each one, the caravan was able to start on the 26th of June, and the next day we took leave of our hosts, saying good-bye for long months to the civihsed regions of the world.
