The issue in a car bomb or in a truck bomb is not necessar...ily sophistication. The issue is quantity, not quality. And when you get up into ranges of explosives in those quantities, you are going to achieve major damage, major destruction, even if the device itself is relatively unsophisticated.
Indeed, since 1980, there have been over a thousand car bombs with over 4000 people killed.
As terrorists move in the direction of large scale indiscriminate violence, physical security becomes more difficult. It is difficult to protect public places, because they are public places.
