Buildings can be strengthened enough to withstand the blow. Contrary to popular belief, U. S. Buildings are not much stronger than those at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Many are weaker, for after the disaster of 1923 the Japanese wrote earthquake protection into their building codes.
