J^But now this last step has been attempted. They have dared to take it already in some prisons in the interior of Russia, in Boutirky, Vladimir, and Orel. The Siberian prisons, in which there were a great number of political prisoners whom in spite of all it was customary to treat with respect, had so far been spared.
