A POET'S KEFLECTION.
The day is spent, and now my tent I pitch, and hope to find, Of gifts the best, sweet sleep and rest For weary limb and mind.
Another day has passed away, Another sun has set ; How many more will set before My tent shall be to let ?
My lot of years well mixed with tears, I know not how they've passed ; My locks, they say, are turning grey, And age is coming fast.
It must be so, for well I know I'm slower in the race ; And in the field I have to yi...eld To younger men my place.
" So mote it be, " 'tis well for me, Thus far I've journeyed on ; If poor in purse, I'm not the worse For what I've undergone.
Well, after all, my wants so small Have always been supplied ; I envy not another's lot, With mine I'm satisfied.
I've had a fair and honest share Of friendly cheer and love, And when my lamp burned dim and damp My sky was clear above.
