There have also been suggestions relating to a change in the law as to the reserves of national banks, in order to enable them to com- pete with trust companies in this respect. None of these suggestions has taken form as yet, but some of the large national banks of the country have affiliated themselves with trust companies in such manner as to accomplish rather effectively any object that might be attained by permission to engage in business which is now forbidden to national banks.
