Old Doctor Clark owned the land adjacent to the new right-of-way, including the swamp with its ''pussy wil- lows, " bogs and cat-tails. " Things conspired, however, to help the enterprise. The first really important move was made by the two rail- roads. In a spirit of economy the Big Four and the Van- dalia line built a joint station at the crossing of the lines, that one agent might attend to the affairs of both compa- nies.
