In March of the following year Rice reported that Dr. Duke K, McCall, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, had called for the destruction ot two kinds of religion, fundamentalism and liberalism.
By early 1958 the division was well under way, and many conserva- tive evangelical institutions had chosen one side or the other. Some 227 continued to resist indentification with either side in the dispute and hoped that the controversy might yet be avoided.
