ftlunro, Alexander, (Victoria), chief factor of the Hudson's Bay Company, was born in the town of Tain, Rossshire, Scot- land, in 1824. In early life he was engaged in different pursuits law, banking, etc. First in Scotland and afterwards in E...ngland. He arrived on Vancouver Island in 1857 in the Hudson's Bay Company's service, and has since remained in and near Victoria. He witnessed the great gold rush of 1858. For many years past he has been factor of the Hudson's Bay Company and accountant of their western department, comprising the whole of British Columbia, and has also had charge of their lands and those of the Puget's Sound Agricultural Company in this Province. After the many changes which have taken place under his observation during the third part of a century he is now, on the eve of his retirement, the senior chief factor in the company's service.
