The apparatus was designed to simulate natural twilight and to 74 75 create an airflow necessary for carrying the female sex phero- mone to the male. The light intensities and airflow of the apparatus were calibrated and R. subtropica adults were pre- pared for mating per Daterman's specifications. The mating chamber was located in a rearing room having a north exposure to light, 701 relative humidity, and temperature of 27 ± 2°C.
