HES inspects the various health care facilties around the state for compliance with state and federal regulations as they relate to licensure and certification.
Complaints ...concerning nursing homes are received by at least four different state agencies: the board; the Hospital and Medical Facilities Division within HES; the Economic; Assistance Division within SRS; and the Nursing Home Ombudsman, a cooperative effort be- tween the Governor's Office and Aging Services of SRS.
The board, the Economic Assistance Division, and the Nursing Home Ombudsman usually refer complaints to the Hospital and Medical Facilities Division for investiga- tion and action. Illustration 7 shows state agency involvement with nursing homes.
