The Secretary of War sent Genera

Major Dade, with one hundred and seventeen men, was sent from Tampa Bay to re-enforce him. Osceola watched his opportunity, fell upon Dade, and massacred all but four of the soldiers, who managed to escape and tell the woful tale.
