The second section of this division deals with investigations of cement and concrete. It is equipped to carry out work both in the laboratory and in the field, and conducts at all times a great number of routine tests of cement used in governmental construction work. This part of the bureau's work assumed such large proportions during the war that it was necessary to establish a number of branch laboratories devoted to cement testing.
