In support of the view that here atque=statim I would suggest that Virgil had, when he wrote the 103 passage, an unconscious reminiscence of Plaut.
Bacch. 278 : forte ut adsedi in stega, Dum circumspecto, atque ego lembum conspicor, where atque is used in this sense, and where the uncommon word hmbus also occurs.
