Both Dr. And Mrs. Beauchamp have been of much service to the compiler in the preparation of this book. Few correspondents have been more intelligent or interested regarding the history of the family. Through their thoughtfulness and painstaking, an exceed- ingly interesting record of the pioneer experiences of Mrs. Beauchamp's father and grandfather, Howard Carter (91) and Erastus Carter (28), in their Ohio home, has been preserved, being carefully taken ...down from the lips of the pioneers themselves. The record would make a volume of considerable size and is well worthy of publication. It is to be regretted that the plan of the present work did not admit of extended quotations from it.
