It was, on the same day, deposited in the post-office, directed to the payer at Canton, who received MONTELIUS 0. CHARLES. 123 it after some delay attributable alone to the fault of the mails. Having passed through the hands ot several holders, it was presented on the 13th day of October, 1873, to the bank for payment, which being refused, it was protested, and notice given through the post-office to the drawers and the several indorsers.
