He is said to have been the son of John Neagle, a reputable en^aver of London, and was probably a pupil of his father. He came to Philadelphia about 181 5 and remained in that city. He was a good banknote engraver and made many plates for the "Annuals." 176 Richard M. Johnson.

Johnson, [2307] John Norman (1748-1817) Bom in England; came to Philadelphia in 1774, "from London," as an "architect and landscape engraver"; though he also did all manner of sil- versmitii's work. He went to Boston about 1780 and engraved the plates for the Boston edition of "An Impartial History of the War," published in 1782.
