CHRIST'S FAREWELL TO HIS MOTHER BEFORE HIS PASSION FOUR full...-length figures about one quarter life-size. Christ kneels on the left with bent head and folded arms, clad in white with crimson mantle; before Him is His mother fainting into the arms of one of the Maries. St. John stands behind in the centre with clasped hands in straw-coloured garment and red cloak. On the right is a building with classical columns ; on the left, distant blue landscape with the sea of Galilee and islands and a river flowing out. The figure of St. John was at first, apparently, drawn taller, but was shortened or else his head more bent, in the course of the execution.
