What reading level is Chambers's Edinburgh Journal, No. 457 book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
' The immediate result was a total cessation of hostilities, and a mostcomplete victory to the English. When the contest was over, thewounded were gradually collected and removed to the hospitals andprivate houses of the city--to the latter when their personal friendsclaimed them. Many of the Danish soldiers and sailors engaged werenatives of Copenhagen, or had relatives and dear friends therein, andthe scenes that ensued during the afternoon, evening, and night, wereheart-rending in the extrem...e. Parents, wives, brothers, sisters, andsweethearts, franticly ran from place to place, alike hoping anddreading to learn certain tidings of the fate of those so dear tothem. All Copenhagen was a city of wo and wailing. Everybody hadsustained a loss. Mothers and fathers wept for their brave sonskilled, wounded, or prisoners; sisters for their brothers; girls fortheir lovers; the patriot for his poor conquered country and hisslaughtered countrymen. Tremendous, in our estimation, was the moralresponsibility of the English ministry for 'letting slip the dogs ofwar' for a slight cause--nay, strictly speaking, for no valid causewhatever.
