The leaves are then cut off from the plant close to the stem, and brought to the little pit, where they are arranged in a circle, with their cut ends resting on the edge of the cavity : another circle of leaves, similarly disposed, is placed above this, then another, tier above tier, but gradually contracting, till a hollow cone is formed, closed in at the top.
