The poem purported to be a translation by Eowley of a metrical narrative by Turgot, a Saxon monk, contemporary \\'ith the Conquest. Chatterton, when liard pressed, had admitted to Mr. Barrett that the first part was his own.
These antique poems of Chatterton (and there are about twenty shorter ones in the same series) are perhaps as worthy of being read consecutively as many portions of the poetry of Byron, Shelley, or Keats.
