Stat. 1911-1924, sees. 53-215a(2) to 53-215a(8), pp. 920-921. 42 NEW JERSEY CHILD WELFARE — LOCAL PROVISION PROBATION LEGAL PROVISIONS When the juvenile court law was enacted in 1903 the law which since 1900 had provided for probation service in the criminal courts was made applicable to the juvenile courts. The law did not pro- vide for special officers for the juvenile courts, but the work of juvenile prob...ation was added to that of the probation officers for adult offenders. The probation law of 1900 was repealed by a new law enacted in 1906, which was revised in 1922. 45 The present probation law states that the judge or judges of the courts of common pleas in and for each county are authorized and empowered, if in their judgment the interests of justice will be pro- moted thereby, to appoint as chief probation officer one probation officer to perform the duties as defined in the law, under direction of the court.
