GASTON. AN ORDINANCE IN RELATION TO TRUANT CHILDREN AND ABSENTEES FROM SCHOOL. Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Rox- bury, as follows : Section 1. The City of Roxbury hereby adopts Sec- tions four, five, six, seven and eight of Chapter 42 of the General Statutes of this Commonwealth, passed December 28, 1859, and avails itself of the provisions of said Chap- ter. Sect. 2. Any minor in said City between the ages of five and sixteen years, who shall be guilty of being an habitual... Truant and of not attending school, or of being without any regular and lawful occupation, or of growing up ill ignorance, shall, upon conviction thereof, be pun- ished by a fine not exceeding twenty dollars, or instead thereof, by being committed to the Almshouse of said City of Roxbury, and situated therein, at the discretion of the Judge of the Police Court of said City having jurisdiction of the case, for such time as said Judge may determine, not exceeding two years; Provided, hoivever, that any minor convicted of either of the offences herein mentioned, may be discharged by such Judge, according to the provi- sions of said Chapter.
