Recovery within a few minutes to five or six hours is the rule unless there should develop a secondary volvulus. Acute distentions are more severe. Primary gastric distentions usually develop soon after eating. The stomach contents may •consist of gas, or a uniform mixture of gas and fermenting food, ■or an impacted mass of dry food (corn meal, fibrous roughage).
