What reading level is College Study & College Life book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
In the secondary school the algebra, French, history and elementary science are usually presented in precise, textbook form, somewhat *'predigested," indeed, in order to bring them within range of the student's compre- hension. The experiments performed in the laboratory are often little more than the blind following of directions; the experimenter does not know why he does thus and so. Where fresh analysis is required, as in the "originals" of geometry, the critical examination of an argument,... the detection of the meaning of one Latin word from its resem- blance to another, the unaided perception of what takes place in the growth of a plant or the explanation of the failure of an experiment, there is commonly little skill. Authoritative facts and rules are the pedagogical burden of childhood and youth. In so far as secondary school subjects and methods are continued in college the student who has mastered the elements and routine processes marches along successfully. Sooner or later, however, he fiinds that higher education involves subjects in which textbook material is unavailable or inadequate.
