At age 12 months, there will be differences between the behaviors of normal infants and DS infants. The normal in- fants will demonstrate a negative affective orientation to the intrusive behavior of the stranger and will postural ly avoid her, will be distressed by the separation from mother, will demand proximity to mother by postural approach, and will be distressed by her second leaving.
