38 Charity Standards.
Two charitable organizations in New Orleans have worked out subsistence standards for the family of five, and for a widow with children. These standards are used in determining the need for charity assistance.
One of these organizations stated that before the war its family standard was $16 per week, and that the war has raised this 40 per cent, making a present standard of $21 weekly.
