What reading level is Confessions of a Beachcomber book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:
So that the youngshall not lack, nor suffer hunger, the hatching is coincident with theappearance of immense shoals of young fish which the bonito perpetuallyharass, driving them to the surface for the terns, with sharp screams ofsatisfaction, to dart upon. What with the strong, far-leaping fish, andthe agile, acrobatic birds, the existence of the small fry is one ofperplexity and terror. Six species of tern take part in these gyrating, foraging campaigns. Three show almost purely white as they... fly; the others, less numerous, asdark flakes in the living whirlwind. Ever changing in position and inpoise--some on the swift seaward cast, some balancing for it with everyfraction of brake power exerted in beating wings and expanded tail, somerecovering equilibrium lost through a fluky start, some dashing deep, some hurrying away (after a spasmodic flutter of dripping feathers) withquivering slips of silver--the perpetual whirl keeps pace with thesplashes of the bonito and the ripples of the worried small fry.
