Its primary function is love of approval, seeking praise and commendation from those around; therefore giving a great desire to please. Its manifestation has been called the " don't-hate-me " element in the character. It is adapted to the sunshine and prosperity, not to adversity ; loves to "put on airs," but fre- quently pretends to dislike display or admira- tion, and does not wish to be thought at all vain. It is, however, the organ of vanity, and tends toward conceit.
