10. Scenery. In a county of which the scenery is an important factor affecting the inhabitants, some attention must be paid to the causes and character of that scenery. Skiddaw is a good example of this type of hill. The rocks of the middle division of the slates, be- longing to the Borrowdale volcanic group, are responsible SCENERY 53 for the wildest scenery in the county.
