" Sir," Capaha replied, " if I had Casquin in my house as guest, either with white hairs or without, I should give him the first place at my meals, and would do him all the honour, besides, that I could ; but as we are eating with strangers, it does not seem just to yield my place, for it has come to me from my forefathers, and if I should do so, my people and my warriors would hold it ill of me.
